What is a good response to this post? Overt refers to operators who anyone can see are on their assignment while protecting the principle. An example of these types of operators would be uniformed campus security, police officers, or agents with their three letter jackets on. When they are seen, everyone knows who they are and what they are doing. An example that we have all seen for an overt operation is when the US President is moving from one location to the other. Though, the secret service isn't necessarily in uniforms, we all know that the 20 guys in suites are there for a photo op. We all know full well that they are the PSD for the President. The goal in having so many is to show a huge presence to deter anyone from even thinking of attempting to do anything because they are will be taken out before the attempt can be completed. Covert on the other hand is when nobody is supposed to be able to tell who you are or what you are doing. You don't wear cloths that are obvious, you do quite the opposite and do your very much to ensure that you blend in with your surroundings. You could look right at a person that performing a covert detail and you would never know that they are any different than any other person in the area. A great time to complete a covert operation with the principle would be when you need to ensure that no one knows what you are doing. When moving a principle through an area that no one may necessarily know who the principle is, you don't want them to stick out by having 4 uniformed agents around him. This will only show that this man is extremely important. This may attract some that will do their best to take advantage of this situation. When deciding on which to use, I believe some of the considerations to keep in mind is who will be the company that the principle will be exposed to, do they already know that the principle is there so attempting to be covert would just silly. Would it be more beneficial to have a hybrid model where you have a few agents in uniform, but you also have a few that are blended in but close by to ensure they can help when/if an issue arises?
